"The Evening Star "
Class 66 66779
The Class 66 brought in a new era in heavey rail work. Talking to visitors at my various exhibitions the '66 seems to be the Deltic of the modern generation.
The subject of the painting is a Class 66 , 66779 named "Evening Star"
GB Railfreight has named the last Class 66 locomotive to be built for the UK and European markets ‘Evening Star’.
Locomotive 66779, which has been liveried in lined passenger express ‘brunswick green’, was named after the last steam locomotive to be built by Swindon Works for British Railways in 1960 (Evening Star No.92220).
Earning the nickname "Sheds" because of the angled roofline, Frieghtliner versions became "Freds"!
The painting shown here is 16 inches X 12 inches oil painting on canvas stretched onto wooden stretcher bars. The canvas comes to me double primed and I put a further two coats of gesso primer on.
